Vanilla pear porridge with toasted seeds
Pear softens into oats while a small topping of toasted seeds adds contrast. The fruit’s ripeness will affect sweetness, so taste the cooked porridge before deciding whether it needs anything extra.

Vanilla pear porridge with toasted seeds
Ingredients
How to make it
- Place oats, milk, pear and salt in a saucepan. Bring to a gentle simmer.
- Cook for 7–10 minutes, stirring regularly, until oats are tender and pear has softened. Add a splash of water if too thick.
- Meanwhile toast pumpkin seeds in a dry pan for 2–3 minutes, stirring and watching closely.
- Stir vanilla into porridge. Divide between bowls and finish with seeds and cinnamon.
Make it work in your kitchen
For a smoother result, grate the pear instead of dicing it. Small children may need toppings adapted to their age and ability to eat them safely. Check the milk alternative and oats for relevant allergens. The porridge thickens as it stands, so a little extra liquid at the end can make serving easier.
